Born in Santiago, Chile, the multi-instrumentalist Andrés Zúñiga moved to Brazil with his parents as a child. He started his musical studies at the age of 7 with his father, an amateur guitarist and music aficionado. He got his first electric guitar at the age of 9 and, at the age of 12, he began to study violin at the Carlos Gomes Conservatory in Campinas where he had the opportunity to play in the youth orchestra of this institution. He started studying and playing guitar, as well as electric bass professionally at the age of 15. At 18, he entered the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), where he took guitar, bass and violin classes; graduating in 1998, with a Bachelor of Music.
Since then he has participated in several musical groups, playing the most varied genres, such as: Rock, Jazz, Country, Flamenco, Salsa, Blues, Pop, Celtic Music, Latin Music, Brazilian Music; having the opportunity to accompany several artists both in concerts and in recordings, among them: Luiza Possi, Roberta Campos, Sandy, Campinas Symphonic Orchestra, Orquestra Rock, Eduardo Araújo, Sylvinha Araújo (In Memoriam), Altemar Dutra Junior, Yassir Chediak, and others.
Among other works, he also participated in several instrumental projects with several musicians such as Aquiles Faneco, Julio Caliman, Ricky Furlani, Gustavo Scaranelo, Beto Kobayashi, and others.
Andrés also participated in the Power Trio SuperOverDrive; with guitarist Ricky Furlani and drummer André Gonzales. In this group he was a vocalist and bassist.
Projeto Pendulum is one of the projects in which he participated along with João Rilton (piano), Beto Kobayashi (acoustic guitar) and Jayme Pladevall (drums). This is a contemporary music group with influences from classical, European folk music, Brazilian music and jazz. In this quartet Andrés played acoustic bass, violin and mandolin. Projeto Pendulum launched its first CD "Impermanência" at the beginning of 2014.
Higher, a Heavy Metal band formed by jazz musicians, was also one of Andrés' projects, in which he participated from 2013 to 2015. The band is formed by Cesar Girardi (voice), Gustavo Scaranelo (guitar) and Pedro Rezende (drums). The debut CD was released in October 2014.
Andrés has been playing with singer Luiza Possi since 2015 playing electric and acoustic guitar, violin and bass. Also, plays with Zizi Possi on Zizi & Luiza tour.
Played with the singer Roberta Campos in 2018 and 2019.
Since 2018, Andrés has participated in the Orquestra Rock (Campinas Rock Orchestra), as a bassist and guitarist (both acoustic and electric).
Andrés participated on drummer's Ricardo Magalhães 2018 album "Brazilian Jazz", as a producer, arranger and bassist.
Andrés has also participated in several Bass Festivals organized by bassist Celso Pixinga from 2007 until today.
Andrés was also a columnist and commentator for the Bass Player Magazine (brazilian version) from 2013 to 2017.
